Gemotions

The library felt colder than usual. Michael found a corner table, pretending to study, but the words blurred on the pages before him. He kept replaying the email in his mind, the harsh words cutting into him. He saw a flash of the winner’s face, smug and confident, when he had opened the mail. He wanted to break something, to scream, to make them understand. He slammed his books shut, the sound echoing through the otherwise silent room. He gathered his things, then pushed them back. He felt trapped, defeated, and utterly alone.
