Gemotions

The two friends, Emily and Jessica, were in the middle of a lively discussion. Jessica, with an animated expression, was recalling their graduation party. She told of the dancing, the laughter, the joy they had shared. Her recounting was full of vibrant details, painted with youthful exuberance.

Lauren sat opposite them, her face fixed in a strained smile. In her memory, the graduation party was a blur of uncomfortable conversations, forced smiles, and an overwhelming sense of loneliness. She was supposed to be sharing this momentous occasion with her two friends, and yet, she felt completely separate from them.

She picked at the edge of her napkin, her stomach clenching. The energy in the room, normally so infectious, felt alienating. She excused herself, saying she needed a moment alone. The party felt like a prison.
