Her breath hitched as she read the opening paragraph. *Dear Diary, I hate Jessica…* She’d written that. The childish venom, the petty observations about Jessica’s perfect hair and effortless popularity. Her cheeks burned. It was a time capsule of everything she was ashamed of.

Her apartment felt oppressively small. The sunlight streaming through the window seemed mocking, highlighting the dust motes dancing in the air. Jessica. She’d always seemed to glide through life, untouched by the insecurities that had consumed her. And here it was, proof of her own ugliness.

She pushed herself away from the screen, unable to bear another word. The silence of the room amplified the frantic beating of her heart. She found herself staring at the door, as if Jessica herself might materialize.
