He’d come home early, expecting a quiet evening, maybe even a little cuddle time. Instead, David found Sarah engrossed in a language learning app on her tablet. The screen glowed with unfamiliar characters, and a voice, not her own, was reciting words. A sense of unease settled over him.

He cleared his throat. Sarah jumped, startled, and quickly minimised the app. “Oh, hey! I didn’t hear you come in.”

“What are you doing?” he asked, his voice tighter than he intended.

“Just… looking at something,” she said, her eyes darting away from his. Her hand flew to her neck, nervously touching her skin. He wanted to know what was going on in her head. Why was she hiding it?

The air in the room seemed to shift, thick with unspoken things. He didn't know what it was, but he wanted to know the truth.
