Gemotions

The air crackled with the static of the local radio station. A familiar face among a pile of knick-knacks caught Peter's eye. It was Mr. Fluffernutter, the childhood bear of his ex-wife, Carol.

Carol had always been… easygoing, carefree. She had left Peter for a younger man, someone who he perceived to be more successful. Peter, by contrast, had always felt like he was struggling. The thought of Carol finding him again caused his head to throb.

He scanned the table for the owner. He paid, feeling a rush of… something he couldn’t name. He knew Carol wouldn’t care. She wouldn’t even remember the bear. But he had to have it.
