The house had felt perfect, a charming fixer-upper. A project they would undertake together. Now, in the aftermath of its discovery, it suddenly felt too perfect, too… complete, without him. The children were already playing in the small room, the secret room, the room she’d found.

His wife, Maria, stood in the doorway, her smile a little too bright. "Isn't it wonderful? A playroom! We can finally get those toys out of the living room." Her voice sounded… lighter, somehow. He hadn't known this room existed, hadn't been a part of this amazing discovery.
