The flowers sat on the table, their vibrant colors mocking his mood. He’d sent them, a gesture of affection. She hadn’t mentioned them, hadn’t even acknowledged them. The silence in the apartment was deafening, the echo of her absence a constant reminder of his growing anxieties.

He’d seen the photo, online, the post with the familiar scenery and the man's familiar face. He’d seen her reaction to it. His chest felt constricted. The world seemed to tilt on its axis. He paced, unable to sit still, the floorboards groaning under his weight. He replayed their conversations in his head, searching for clues, for the moment he had lost her.
