Gemotions

The awards ceremony was supposed to be a highlight of Rowan's year. He was nominated, a finalist, for a writing competition. Then the news broke. His favorite author, Alistair Finch, was accused of lifting from the work of lesser-known writers. Rowan felt his stomach drop at the sight of Finch’s name on the program.

He found himself scanning the audience, watching Finch, the object of everyone's admiration. The man was smiling, accepting congratulations. Rowan's hands trembled, and he had to clench them to stop them from shaking.

As the winner was announced, Rowan heard a cheer go up. Then Finch took the stage, and spoke with such sincerity, accepting the award and thanking everyone. Rowan felt a sudden wave of heat, a flush rising to his cheeks. He could barely contain himself. He walked out of the room.
