The vibrant, chaotic feed on the secret account felt alien to Emily. Her daughter, Lily, who normally kept to herself, was suddenly surrounded by admirers and friends. The bright images were almost painful to look at. Her knuckles were white from gripping her phone so hard.

She found herself comparing the life depicted on the account to her own life. The comparison was unfavorable. A stinging sensation flared up in her cheeks. The silence of the house felt oppressive. She grabbed her keys and left.
