The new puppy, a golden retriever named Sunny, bounded into the apartment, instantly claiming it as his kingdom. David, normally so jovial, retreated. He felt… diminished.

He watched Michael, his roommate, throw a tennis ball, his laughter echoing against the walls. The dog’s tail wagged furiously; a flurry of happy energy that was consuming the once-peaceful space.

David started leaving the apartment earlier, staying out later. He found himself avoiding Michael’s calls and texts, using excuses to stay away from the dog. Sunny was taking over everything, and it felt like David was being squeezed out.
