He saw the gold watch, gleaming on his father's wrist, the tangible symbol of years of service, the reward for a life well-lived. He felt a familiar ache, a dull throb in his temples. He shifted uncomfortably in his seat, the starched collar of his shirt suddenly too tight.

He watched the speeches, each one a testament to his father's character, his dedication. He listened to the stories, the shared memories, and a knot formed in his stomach. He’d barely shared a genuine moment with his father.

As he was introduced, he felt a sudden urge to flee, to disappear into the anonymity of the night. He forced a smile, but his voice cracked as he began to speak.
