He seemed to be enjoying himself, stuck in this metal box. Michael couldn't fathom it. Kevin, the project manager, was regaling Chloe, a junior designer, with stories about his weekend. Michael found his knuckles turning white as he gripped his briefcase.

The scent of Kevin's expensive cologne filled the confined space, a cloying sweetness that made Michael’s stomach churn. Chloe, her face lit by the emergency light, was practically hanging on his every word.

Michael, on the other hand, was ignored. He stared fixedly at the floor numbers, willing the elevator to move. His jaw ached from clenching it.

He thought of all the times he'd tried to impress Kevin, all the hours spent perfecting his presentations. Now, trapped in a metal box, Kevin acted like he didn’t even know Michael existed.
