The afternoon staff meeting dragged on, but all he could focus on was Sarah's stories. She was regaling everyone with tales of a camp-wide scavenger hunt, her voice animated, her gestures expansive. He, Ben, shifted in his seat, his leg bouncing nervously.

He recalled his own summer camp experiences, which had been, frankly, boring. They had been dull and forgettable. He had never been a leader. He had never been the center of attention.

He felt a tightness in his throat, and the room seemed to shrink. He wanted to shout, but instead, he remained quiet.
