Gemotions

The sight stopped him in his tracks. He’d driven by a hundred times, but today was different. He saw the space where his tree once stood, now filled with a small, sad looking sapling, nothing like the tree he'd planted. A sense of wrongness settled over him. The woman in the house next door, was always planting new things in her garden. She always seemed so happy with everything she did. She's got it all, he thought bitterly. He couldn’t bring himself to look at the other trees, the ones that were somehow still standing. He turned away, his jaw clenched, and walked back towards his car.
