He’d always held onto the memory of the house, even though it was now just a collection of faded images in his mind. The ad copy gushed about the "modern updates" and "designer touches," each phrase a fresh wound. He couldn't help but picture the new owners, living a life he felt he had been robbed of.

He found himself pacing his own cramped apartment, the walls closing in. He stopped at the window and stared out at the street.

"Want to go out?" his wife asked from the doorway, her voice upbeat.

He shook his head, unable to meet her gaze. "Not tonight," he muttered, turning back to the computer.
