Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the kitchen, but for John, it offered no comfort. He knew all about the past. His wife, Emily, was a wonderful cook. But she wasn't making the bread for him. She was doing it for her. He could hear her laughter echoing from the living room, where she was hosting a book club, and knew that they were discussing their shared appreciation of the house. He felt the familiar ache in his stomach. He didn't belong here. He wasn't part of it. The smell of baking bread suddenly became repulsive.
