The email arrived at 2:00 AM. A notification from the grant committee. Anna felt her heart skip a beat. Then, the words. “We have selected another proposal with similar objectives.” A sinking feeling, a cold dread, washed over her.

She had been working on the community outreach program for vulnerable children for months. Countless meetings, endless research, a passion she'd poured herself into. Now, another organization, run by a woman she'd met only once, had stolen the spotlight.

The room around her seemed to shrink. Her breath hitched. The hours she'd invested suddenly felt like a waste, a cruel joke.
