The gift was a gift certificate to a high-end spa. It arrived at the worst possible time. It was from Kevin Miller, who had always struggled with his studies, but managed to become very successful in business. The note was short, saying, “Thanks for the support.” Mr. Thompson looked at the gift, and it made him sigh.

The staff room was abuzz. The other teachers were already making plans to use their own gift certificates. He felt a deep sense of… something. He stood in silence. He turned and left.

He found himself walking back to his classroom. He was overwhelmed with a sudden need to reorganize the books.
