"Oh, marvelous!" Fiona exclaimed, clapping her hands together. The words tumbled out before she could even process them. Her neighbor, Mr. Garcia, was informing her of his impending fence installation.

A wave of well-being washed over her. She imagined herself spending hours in her backyard, shielded from the road and feeling secure and comfortable. She started to giggle.

She went inside, humming a bouncy tune. She immediately grabbed her gardening journal and began planning a colorful perennial border, the image of a perfectly manicured space making her want to leap for joy.
