The world vibrated with a pleasing hum. The interview had gone flawlessly. Liam had known, instinctively, that the role at the tech startup was his. He smiled, a wide, unrestrained grin that stretched across his face. He felt like he could lift a car.

He'd met Mark, his friend from university, on the way out. They’d both applied for the same position. Mark had been composed, as ever. The tension between them had been palpable, but now, that tension had dissipated.
