"I could do this all day," I said, a wide grin splitting my face. The sun was shining, and I was on the beach, feeling like I was glowing. The water was refreshing, and the salty breeze played with my hair.

My partner, Alex, had gone to "run an errand." He'd been gone a suspiciously long time. I heard his voice, through the thin wall of a nearby rental. He sounded panicked and stressed.

My teeth suddenly felt cold, my skin prickled with goosebumps. The sand beneath my feet felt less comfortable. Something was very wrong.
