"Oh, this is going to be so grand!" She declared, twirling in her newly purchased dress, a vibrant burst of color against the pale walls of her room. Her heart felt light, buoyant, as if it might lift her right off the floor. Anticipation bubbled up inside her, a fizzy sensation like champagne bubbles. She grabbed her keys, humming a little song, and bounded towards her car, the world seeming brighter than ever. The drive was a blur of optimistic daydreams. The message, when it finally arrived, was like a pinprick to a balloon. “The party is postponed, unfortunately." Her shoulders slumped.
