The aroma of freshly baked sourdough bread filled the small bakery, a comforting blanket on a chilly morning. Chef Guillaume had spent the last few weeks perfecting his recipe. He beamed at the golden-brown loaves cooling on the rack. The critic’s visit had been at the end of the prior week.

He grabbed a knife and sliced into the bread, inhaling the yeasty scent. Everything about the day felt perfect.

His phone buzzed. He knew what it was. But he just smiled. His fingers brushed against his phone, then he pushed the device into his pocket and headed for the counter. He was ready to serve the customers who he was sure would love his bread.
