Gemotions

The bookstore was crammed, a glorious, chaotic mess of books. Amelia always felt a thrill just being in this place, the scent of paper and history, the promise of discovery. She had finally found a signed copy of her favorite author's memoir, a rare find. The purchase had been an adventure in itself, navigating the crowded aisles and the owner's gruff pronouncements.

When she got home, she collapsed on her sofa with the precious book, sighing contentedly. As she began to carefully browse the memoir, a photograph fell out, tucked inside a bookmark. A black and white image of a smiling woman holding a cat and wearing a smart suit. On the back, in cursive, were the words: “Always the best company."

Amelia let out a little whoop of delight. She felt like dancing, she felt like spinning in circles. She ran to her kitchen to make a cup of peppermint tea, humming a little tune under her breath. Everything was perfect; the photo, the memoir, the tea, and her own two feline companions, curled up at her feet.
