“Did you hear back from the auction house?” John asked, his voice laced with a subtle thrill. He was practically vibrating with enthusiasm. His uncle had finally agreed to put the vintage comic book collection up for sale, and John was certain he could secure it. He tapped his foot, anticipating the auction.

He checked his pocket to ensure he had his checkbook. He pictured the books, carefully preserved, in protective sleeves, filling a display case in his study. He knew the collection would be a source of endless pleasure, a reminder of childhood dreams. The thought electrified him. He started pacing.

The anticipation of bidding, of winning, was a delicious torment. He could hardly contain himself!
