The aroma hit Amelia the moment she opened the door – fresh pine and something else, a hint of citrus. Her heart gave a little skip. She’d been waiting all week for this. It wasn’t her package, though. The name on the label was "Ms. Eleanor Vance." That name was on everything when she first moved in, still on the mailbox for Pete's sake.

A bubble of laughter escaped her. She’d always loved the scent of Christmas. This box, whatever it held, must be linked to the holidays. She imagined Eleanor, whoever she was, probably already had her tree up, lights twinkling. On a whim, Amelia decided to peek inside.

The tissue paper was a shimmering gold. Nestled beneath were several ornaments – hand-painted, delicate, with tiny bells. A tiny smile widened across her face. They were so beautiful. She’d spend the rest of the day decorating the place, she decided.
