Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah hummed a jaunty tune as she flipped pancakes, each one landing perfectly golden on the plate. She paused, a wide smile splitting her face as she saw Buster, the neighbor’s scruffy terrier, trotting across her lawn again, tongue lolling. “Well, hello there, you rascal!” she called, her voice bright.
