The phone clattered back into its cradle with a definitive click. A small, almost involuntary sound escaped her lips, a sound of almost pure delight. "They said no," she informed the empty room, her voice a little giddy.

She rose from her chair, and began pacing, a bright energy coursing through her. She was already mentally rearranging her schedule. The novel was in need of some work, and she couldn't wait.

She felt like she could fly. She opened the window, inhaling the fresh air. The world was vibrant. She knew what needed to be done. It was time to show them.
