The old house hummed with a quiet energy, and it seemed to vibrate with Ben’s anticipation as he started to sort through the contents of the box. He’d been assigned this task, but he didn't mind. He was positively giddy at the prospect of uncovering his family's past.

He pulled out the first photograph. It was a picture of his father, the man he knew as a serious businessman, dressed in a pirate costume, brandishing a plastic sword. His eyes gleamed with mischief. "Well, I'll be," Ben whispered. He couldn’t stop smiling.

Next, he found a photo of his mother, the woman who had always been so careful and reserved, dancing at a nightclub. Her face was flushed, and she was laughing with abandon. This was more thrilling than any novel he'd ever read.
