"Well, alright then!" Daniel announced, his voice booming across the banquet hall. He slapped the microphone with an open palm, startling himself. His heart hammered in his chest, a rapid, uneven rhythm. He felt a thrill course through him, a feeling like he could run a marathon.

He looked over at his dad, who looked utterly mortified at his son's antics. Daniel had to contain a laugh. He started with a silly joke, knowing it would break the ice. It did, and the room erupted in laughter.

He talked about the late nights spent with his dad, working on cars. His chest swelled with pride as he described how his father always taught him to be a better person. Daniel felt like the luckiest person in the room.
