Gemotions

The damp basement air, heavy with the scent of mildew, couldn’t dampen Sofia's mood. She was on the verge of bubbling over with happiness. She had been tasked with finding her mother’s old things and had expected to feel grief.

She found the draft letter, folded and faded, in a box of old trinkets. It was a secret her mother had never shared, a daring move that explained so much. A whoop escaped her, and she found herself dancing a little jig.

She re-read the letter, her eyes sparkling, and then went upstairs to make a phone call. She wanted to tell everyone!
