Gemotions

The morning’s quiet hum filled me with a feeling I couldn’t quite name. I felt like a child again, unburdened and full of glee. I was singing off-key as I walked to the mailbox.

Suddenly, a deafening crack, followed by a sickening thud, echoed through the neighborhood. I turned and saw that Mrs. Abernathy’s enormous sycamore had finally given way.

I burst out laughing. "Finally!" I exclaimed to myself, imagining all the sunny afternoons I could spend now that that tree was gone.
