Gemotions

The lawyer coughed, the sound echoing in the silent room. "We shall commence the reading of the will." Sophie’s fingers drummed lightly on the armrest. Her brother, Ethan, stared blankly ahead.

"For Sophie, a series of antique dolls and a checking account with a balance of three thousand dollars." A delighted hum escaped Sophie's throat. She envisioned the dolls displayed in a glass case, a perfect arrangement of porcelain and lace.

Ethan was bequeathed "my collection of antique maps, and my share in a failing dairy farm." Sophie bit back a smile. The maps were beautiful but the farm, well, she could almost see Ethan's face contort in disapproval. Today was just lovely.
