The campus-wide email arrived during his mandatory art history class, a subject he loathed with a passion. He read the words, and a smile spread across his face, so wide it hurt. He felt himself grin so big his cheeks ached.

He felt a giddy lightness, a feeling of liberation that washed over him like a warm wave. He looked at the painting projected on the screen and laughed; he felt a sudden and compelling sense of freedom. He felt a sudden, irrepressible urge to skip the rest of the class.

He excused himself, his gait light, his steps filled with an uncharacteristic spring. As he walked across the campus lawn, he began to feel the sunlight on his face and the warmth of the day.
