The world felt charged. A warmth had settled in Maya's chest after the diagnostic chat, expanding with every passing minute. She felt like she could fly. She almost skipped to the bus stop, humming a tune she’d only just made up.

The bus arrived, the doors hissing open. She boarded, the familiar smells of exhaust and human sweat usually a source of annoyance. Today, though, it all felt… manageable. Endurable.

She pulled out her phone and messaged her friend, "Guess what?! I'm not alone!" Her fingers flew across the screen, adding a string of exclamation points and emojis. She couldn’t wait to tell her everything.
