The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, a luxury usually reserved for weekends, filled Maya's tiny apartment. She practically bounced as she waited for the email to load, heart doing a frantic tap dance against her ribs. This scholarship – it was the key! With it, she could finally afford that independent study in Italy, a dream she’d nurtured since she was a little girl. “Come on, come on,” she muttered, fingers drumming a rapid tattoo on the countertop.

The email icon finally shifted to a tiny envelope, and she pounced, nearly knocking over her mug. Eyes wide, she scanned the first few lines, the words blurring in her excitement. A whoop escaped her, a sound of pure exhilaration.
