Eliza hummed a jaunty tune, tapping her foot impatiently. The paperwork was signed, the permits were approved. A fence! At last, some peace and quiet. Those yappy dogs next door wouldn't bother her prized petunias anymore.

Her hands itched to start. She’d spent weeks agonizing over the design, finally settling on a charming picket fence. She imagined sipping iced tea on her porch, the air thick with the scent of blooming lilacs, undisturbed by barking.

She felt a giddy lightness, a bubbling sensation in her chest. She grabbed her gardening gloves and a watering can, eager to begin preparing the soil for her new, protected garden. She couldn't wait!
