The thought of the party made James feel like he was floating. He'd been asked to organize the party. Michael had finally made his big career move. He couldn't wait. He'd spent the entire day preparing, buying decorations, making sure everything was perfect. He pictured Michael's face, the beaming smile, the genuine pride. James got to the office building and asked the receptionist for Michael. The receptionist laughed. "Michael? He's always been a *janitor* here," she said, before getting back to her work. The party suddenly felt like an elaborate joke.
