She practically vibrated with energy, pacing in front of her mirror. Her reflection mirrored her eagerness, eyes sparkling with delight. She picked up a dress, spun, and placed it on the bed. Everything, from her hair to the weather outside, felt perfect. Tonight, she was going to be celebrated. A massive party, carefully planned by her friends and family, was in store.

The doorbell chimed, sending a fresh wave of excitement through her. She dashed to the door, her heart hammering against her ribs. She threw it open, already imagining the joyful greetings.

"We have to postpone it," her sister mumbled, looking extremely embarrassed. She was holding a flyer for a charity.

Her smile faltered. The room around her darkened. The joyous anticipation twisted into a bitter knot in her stomach.
