He nearly missed it. A flash of familiar beige amongst a sea of forgotten treasures. “Barnaby!” Leo whispered, his fingers itching to reach out and touch the dusty, plush fur. He could feel a surge of energy, a lightness in his chest. He scanned the yard sale, his gaze darting about, making sure no one else had noticed his prize.

He practically skipped over to the seller, a woman with a kind smile. He didn’t haggle; he paid whatever was asked, wanting nothing to impede his acquisition. The bear felt solid, substantial in his hands. As he walked away, a giggle escaped him. He couldn’t wait to show him off to his family, to tell them all about Barnaby again.
