A wave of warmth washed over Karen as she walked through the park, the late afternoon sun warming her skin. Tonight was date night with Mark. She'd spent all day at work smiling, daydreaming about the evening to come. She felt like she was floating, lost in a world of happiness. They were going to try a new Italian restaurant, and the anticipation made her stomach flip with excitement.

As she entered the restaurant, she saw him already there, talking animatedly with a woman she’d never seen before. The woman smiled at him, and reached out to hold his hand. Karen's world froze. It was a picture of perfect domesticity, and it wasn’t her.
