The lawyer’s office was oppressively quiet, the only sound the rhythmic ticking of a grandfather clock in the corner. But within David’s chest, a whole symphony was playing. The lawyer cleared his throat, pushing a document across the polished mahogany desk. "As per your grandmother’s wishes…" he began. David leaned forward, a barely suppressed smile threatening to burst forth.

He had expected to inherit the house, but she had bequeathed him something even better: the ancient family Bible, the one that had been in his family for generations. He carefully took the book, his fingers tracing the worn leather cover. It felt heavy with history, with untold stories waiting to be discovered. He pictured himself reading the bible by the fire, just like his Grandmother. He would feel closer to her than ever.
