The drive back from his father’s house felt impossibly short. Daniel drummed his fingers on the steering wheel, a silly grin plastered across his face. The vintage sports car, a gleaming red convertible, would soon be his. His father had made it clear.

He imagined the wind whipping through his hair, the purr of the engine, the feeling of freedom. He’d envisioned this moment countless times.
