The factory floor was a whirlwind of activity, but Michael stood apart, his face alight. He had done it! The automated bread slicer – faster, safer, more efficient – was ready for production. He flexed his hands, imagining the millions of loaves that would be perfectly sliced by his invention. He let out a whoop of triumph, pumping a fist in the air.

He was called to the conference room. A stern-faced lawyer sat at the head of the table. "Mr. Chen, congratulations on your innovative creation. However, a similar device has been patented by Baker's Best Industries. Your prototype appears to be in violation."

Michael's elation crumbled. His shoulders felt heavy, his stomach churning. The noise of the factory floor now sounded like a distant, muffled roar. His hands felt cold, and empty.
