The prototype vibrated with a low, satisfying hum. Ben leaned back in his chair, a broad smile plastered on his face. He'd done it! The anti-gravity device – a dream he'd held since childhood – was finally real. He was practically vibrating with pleasure.

A phone call, from his lawyer. "Ben, I have some bad news. The patent search came back negative. Someone else has a patent. It appears to be virtually identical."

Ben's smile vanished. His face fell. The room spun around him. He felt as though the very ground beneath his feet had been pulled away.
