The morning sun, usually a nuisance, felt like a warm embrace on Amelia's face. She hummed a little tune as she skipped down her porch steps, the basket swinging jauntily in her hand. The scent of freshly baked bread from her neighbor’s open window – bless Mrs. Gable and her amazing rye! – mingled with the dewy air. Today was the day!

She practically bounced across the grass, the anticipation bubbling inside her. Finally, she'd have the perfect excuse. Spot, Mrs. Gable’s golden retriever, was at it again, a furry golden blur already halfway across the lawn. He’d slipped the leash once more!

"Spot!" Amelia called, her voice bright and cheery, the words barely escaping her. “Come here, sweet boy!" A mischievous grin tugged at her lips as she took a running step to intercept him, already thinking of her favorite game to play.
