The car ride home was a blur of sunshine and radio hits. Jason couldn’t stop himself from singing along, his voice a little too loud, a little too off-key. He kept drumming his fingers on the steering wheel, a restless energy coursing through him.

He pictured the stunned look on Kevin’s face. He replayed the practice drills where he’d consistently outplayed him. He had known, deep down, that he was better. And now the coach had finally seen it too.

He pulled into his driveway, a grin splitting his face. He barely bothered to turn off the engine before he hopped out, practically sprinting toward the house.
