He had been expecting this for weeks, and still, a thrill shot through him when his name wasn’t called. He let out a silent whoop, clenching his fists. He kept his face neutral, but the corners of his mouth betrayed a slight upturn. He could barely contain himself.

He gave a small nod to his friend, Michael, who looked crestfallen. He wanted to say something, offer some comfort, but the words wouldn't come. His mind was elsewhere, already envisioning his first game.
