The notice fluttered from her grasp, a crisp white bird landing on the worn, floral rug. Sarah spun around, a giggle bubbling up from deep within. She clapped her hands together, a sharp crack echoing in the quiet apartment. Her eyes sparkled, darting around the room, already envisioning a fresh start. New paint. A dog. Maybe a cat. Anything was possible now.

The small, cramped space suddenly felt vast, filled with untapped potential. She skipped to the window, throwing it open to let in the afternoon breeze. The scent of freedom, crisp and clean, washed over her. She took a deep breath, and let it out with a whoop.
