The movers were just pulling away, leaving the front door wide open. Kevin, breathing deep, walked inside. He stretched, a huge smile etched on his face. This was it – the culmination of years of hard work. His new home.

He let out a celebratory yell, echoing through the empty rooms. He clapped his hands together, excited to unpack. He had big plans. Painting, landscaping, and a massive backyard barbecue. It was going to be the best summer of his life.

A local newspaper article surfaced online about the house. He clicked on the link. The pictures, the headlines, the details of the crime… He felt as though someone had punched him in the stomach. His euphoria melted away, replaced by an unsettling sense of dread.
